Information for Speakers

We thank you again for your willingness to participate as exhibitors at JConf Guatemala 2024. Below we share the first important details.

Designated Schedule

You will find the time assigned to your presentation in the agenda . Please notify us if there is any inconvenience.

Graphic material

We will soon be publishing the event's graphic material so that you can use it in your presentation and/or dissemination of the event. You can also visit the Press Kit for more information.

Arrival and stay in Guatemala

We remind you again that the event will take place on Saturday, November 9th . Our suggestion is that your departure date be Monday, November 11th as we will have a special event prepared for Sunday, November 10th.

Immediate Communication

For those who wish to have immediate communication, when sending the notifications of acceptance of their talk we will enable an exclusive Telegram channel for speakers and the organization.

Venue and parking

The rooms have an HDMI projector, electrical connection and, in the case of the "main stage", audio amplification. There will be an EXCLUSIVE internet connection for speakers, so we ask that you do not share the password during the conference.

Each room will have a JConf volunteer assigned to assist with room setup and networking. If your talks are sponsored, you are allowed to give away any souvenirs you deem appropriate.

We remind you that the event will take place at the CENTRO TICS INTECAP.

For those traveling by car, the CENTRO TICS INTECAP has parking for small cars (sedans) and motorcycles, at a cost of Q10 (~US$1.10) all day.

If you check in after 9am the parking lot will be full so we suggest you park in the parking lot in front of the Olympic pool, at a cost of Q40 per day (~US$5).

Currency and payments

The official currency in Guatemala is the Quetzal, whose exchange rate ranges between Q 7.6 and Q 7.8 quetzales per US$1.

Guatemala is one of the countries with the highest use of credit cards in Central America. It is possible to purchase goods with cards in amounts starting from US$4.

Merchants with POS Bac usually support any card issuer (VISA, Master Card, American Express, Dinners Club), while merchants with VISA usually only support popular cards (VISA, Master Card and American Express).

Additionally, some businesses in the capital accept Bitcoin, but for now it is more of a curiosity than a universal means of payment.

Public transport in Guatemala

The capital city has two types of public transport:

Transmetro - https://rutastransmetro.muniguate.com/

Transurbano - https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transurbano

The transmeter is considered safe, so you can use it if necessary.

WE DO NOT RECOMMEND under any circumstances that you take a city bus, as they are usually uncomfortable and dangerous.

Additionally, Guatemala has four taxi systems:

Rotating (white)

For rent (yellow and green) - http://www.amarilloexpress.com/

Uber

Indrive

White taxis only accept cash and usually have very variable charges for foreigners, which is why we  DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM , while yellow taxis, indrive and uber accept cash and credit cards.

Safe and unsafe areas of the capital city

As with any event in Latin America, our first suggestion is to take the appropriate precautions to have the best experience during the event.

The capital city is divided into zones, ranging from zone 1 to zone 25. The areas considered safe are:

Zone 4 (where the event will take place)

Zone 9

Zone 10

Zone 13

Zone 15

Zone 16

For those interested in sightseeing in the historic center (zone 1), the safest area is the streets surrounding Paseo de la 6ta: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paseo_de_la_Sexta

However, our recommendation is not to carry visible valuables and to consult with one of the organizers about this before going anywhere.

Recommended accommodation options

The hotel zones with the best options in Guatemala are zones 4, 9, 10, 13 and 15. All are located 15-20 minutes from the event by car.

Guatemala has chain hotels such as Hilton , Marriot , IHG , Barceló and Holiday Inn .

Likewise, zone 4 is the bohemian area of the capital of Guatemala and one of the best neighborhoods in LATAM. Therefore, there are various options nearby on platforms such as Airbnb or Booking.com.

Along these lines, the following accommodations are located near the event:
